Catalog
Management
Content has always been the driver of commerce. Rich
and accurate product information, presented consistently
to the end customer at all points of sale has become
a key strategic advantage that is hard to ignore.
Apsiva marries the concepts of product information
management with catalog creation to enable organizations
to benefit on the aggregation, and management of content
to the actual creation of catalogs and makes it all
seamless.
The
Apsiva solution makes a clear distinction between
the design of a catalog and the management of the
data that goes in there.
The product
information solution focuses purely on creating
and managing product data - getting it ready for deployment
to customer touch-points.
In turn, the catalog management components create
channel and media-specific representations of the
product data - Web, Print and CD.
Web
This solution is designed to fit into the branding
of any companies web-site - new or existing. Web users
can find their product requirements with pre-built
features like parametric searching, classification
drill-down and product compare.
Print
The print module has all the functionality required
to assemble product information for a print page -
from product family management, to product table creation
and product image selection. Most importantly, a print
page can be automatically created in a desktop publishing
tool like Quark Xpress. Data synchronization capabilities
ensure that product changes are reflected in the desktop
publishing tool, without the need for the respective
departments to communicate each and every change to
each other.
CD
With this CD package, a complete, self-contained
and customized representation of the master repository
can be created on-the-fly. This provides a dynamic
method to communicate data to customers and stakeholders.

More
businesses recognize today that rich and accurate
product information, presented consistently to the
end customer at all points of sales is a key strategic
advantage that cannot be ignored.
But sales
channels and media are evolving. For example, many
companies that previously only utilized print catalogs,
are now using a Web catalog as well.
Customers and channel partners are demanding that
the product information be supplied or presented
in a rich, accurate and digital format.
In most cases, these companies' back-end processes
and systems are not adequate or scalable to address
these multi-channel catalog requirements.
Consider how long
it takes to update a web-site with the latest product
information. This can be a slow and cumbersome process
because it typically involves IT or an external
web-design company.
Why
does it take so long to create a catalog?
The creation of a catalog involves two distinctly
different processes - the design of the catalog
brand (look-and-feel) and the management of the
product information (content, product specifications,
copy and images) that goes into the catalog. Inefficiencies
are abundant when these two get mixed.
For example, a simple product specification change
would traditionally be communicated
to both the print designer and the IT department
(web). Data is updated 'in the channel' -
at the specific catalog media - using a desktop
publishing tool and web page editor. This poses
problems:
-
Very
reliant on costly IT resources
-
Not scalable - each product change is performed
with the same inefficient processes
-
Iterations, inconsistencies
and inaccuracies in brand and data creep,
after
multiple change
The
Apsiva solution makes a clear distinction between
the design of a catalog and the management of the
data (product
information management) that goes
in there. Product changes are automatically published
to media-specific channels - print, Web and CD.
